Let me tell you a little bit about Local Concept. For more than two decades we’ve been in the translation and localization business. Whoa! What’s “localization” you ask? Well, we help high-tech companies -- like HP, Gateway, Sprint Nextel and Acer -- translate their technical documentation, marketing, advertising, software and websites for consumers in foreign markets. Uh-oh. Does that mean our sales people need to be fluent in Spanish or German or Chinese or something? Nope, the only language our sales people need to know is the sweet sound of closing a sale.

Don’t worry. We will give you all the training you need on our localization process. You’ll be an expert before you start to woo clients.

Some of our clients have their headquarters in Southern California, but mostly you’ll find our clients all over the U.S. map. So you’ll have to know how to get your foot in the door when the door is in cyberspace. For the right person, this could turn into the telecommuting job you’ve been dreaming of.

Not that it’s a chore to come to the office. Our headquarters is in downtown San Diego. We’re steps from the marina. I can see the tall ships on the horizon. Hey, if you have work, it might as well be in paradise! (And we pay for employees’ parking – that’s right, they’ve paved paradise and put up a parking lot.)

Our ideal candidate: 

• already has leads in computer software or printed services;
• has experience in vendor-side sales;
• is always thinking about ways to generate new leads;
• is a team player;
• is interested in the global nature of business;
• and loves the latest gadgets, computers, even medical advances (we've got medical device/pharmaceutical clients too!).

Responsibilities include

• Qualifying potential customers through cold calling, community involvement, existing database and related trade shows;
• Contacting VP level managers and creating needs assessment for localization;
• Managing the sales process from lead generation to close of sale;
• Maintaining and building relationships with prospective clients.

Required skills
This is not an entry-level job. We require:

• Minimum 2 years sales experience with mid- to large-size companies;
  Bachelors degree or equivalent; 
• A great communicator who’s a whiz at e-mail marketing;
• A dynamic personality with an upbeat attitude and professional demeanor; 
• A knack for developing and maintaining business relationships;
• The proven ability to close a sale;
• And familiarity with ACT or other sales databases a plus.

Pay
Base + commission. Base depends upon experience. Local Concept offers: Medical insurance; paid time off; matching 401(k); a casual, easygoing atmosphere with offices in Little Italy; and don’t forget about the paid parking!! (Is that great, or what!)

Job Description 

• Formatting and page layout.
• Editing graphics and screen shots.
• Converting/generating output of translated material in multiple formats (creating PostScript files and PDF files).
• Post-DTP QA on localized documentation and graphics.
• Project coordination for program managers including assessing and aligning resources, organizing files, interfacing with linguists.

Qualifications

• Translation/localization industry experience (vendor side).
• Knowledge of font management applications such as Adobe Type Manager.
• Knowledge of various printer drivers and compression and other settings in Acrobat distiller job options.
• Strong working knowledge of operating systems such as Mac OS (both 9.x and X.x) and Windows.
• Knowledge of FTP software.

Must be an expert-level user of the following applications:

• Adobe FrameMaker
• Adobe Illustrator
• Adobe Acrobat
• QuarkXPress
• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft PowerPoint
• Not required, but nice to have experience in Adobe InDesign

Job Description 

• You will work with all aspects of translating and the localization process, from client consultancy to final delivery to the client.
• You will be involved in analysis, extraction of text, file preparation, post processing of localized files, building of localized component (website, web, help, html, ASP), scheduling and resource management.
• You will manage teams, both locally and remotely.
• You must have excellent communication and organizational skills and care about details.

Qualifications

• College degree. Master's in related field preferred.
• At least 3 years hands-on project manager experience in localization, vendor experience preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Must be process driven.
• The “tech-ier” the candidate, the better.
• Trados experience.
• DTP experience a plus.
• Management skills a big plus.
